Collaborative Projects

ISOO is proud to partner with our members to bring visibility to collaborative projects in Ocular Oncology. If you have a project you would like listed, please submit it by using the form linked below.

Research Projects

  • Retinoblastoma Expert Analysis

    An invitation from David Abramson

    Research survey for retinoblastoma identification

  • Opioids in Pain Management

    An invitation from Vijitha S. Vempuluru, M.D. , Charlotte Nelle Shields, M.D. , Carol L. Shields, M.D.

Given the issue of opioid abuse in the USA and other countries, we seek to avoid this problem while still providing effective post-operative analgesia in the management of ocular tumors following radiotherapy or enucleation.

  • Join Our AI-Driven Eye Cancer Detection Project

Innovating for Early Diagnosis: Advances in deep learning have revolutionized melanoma detection in skin lesions, but similar progress in ophthalmology—for cancers in the eyelid, conjunctiva, and choroid—lags behind. At Sheba Medical Center and Tel Aviv University, Prof. Ofira Zloto and Dr. Vicktoria Vishnevskia Dai spearhead a pioneering effort to fill this gap. Our initial study, analyzing 1000 images of eyelid lesions, underscores the urgent need for a global database to enhance diagnostic accuracy and reliability.

A Call for Global Collaboration: We're inviting medical professionals and institutions worldwide to join a retrospective, multi-center study aimed at developing an automated, machine learning-based diagnostic tool. This collaboration promises to set new standards in early eye cancer detection, offering hope for improved patient outcomes.

Get Involved: Participation comes with full support, including protocols and data agreements, under the auspices of an international IRB from Sheba Medical Center and Tel Aviv University. If you're ready to contribute to this life-saving project, contact us to learn more about how you can make a difference in the fight against eye cancer.

Your involvement could help turn this vision into reality, ushering in a new era of medical diagnostic excellence.

Educational Support

  • Woo Mentorship Program

As a way to increase communication and engagement among members, Women in Ocular Oncology is planning on starting a dedicated mentorship program, which will include virtual sessions, in-person events at meetings, and one-on-one interactions.
